Script unsafe ActiveX in Pocket IE

AXGate for Pocket PC 2003 (Windows Mobile 2003) solves a problem known for many developers. It is often convenient to write parts of a bigger product or small applications as HTML pages. They can be in the local file system or even online if a more complex solution is the goal. However to do something of use access to the OS features is required - file access, registry access, data base and so on.

On the desktop there are many alternatives and even without them one can count on the security manager and leave the user the decision to allow the page to proceed with unsafe components. On Pocket IE there is no way to use unsafe ActiveX.

AXGate overcomes this in a way a bit different from the desktop, but we believe even more convenient. The access to the components is controlled by profiles listing the allowed components. The profiles support also protocol and URL restrictions which can play the same role the security zones play for the desktop IE.

For convenience the component is packed with more than 30 freeware ActiveX that cover almost everything except data base access (which can be obtained through ADO CE).

Active Local Pages grows up as powerful desktop software development kit which makes the WEB programming equal to the desktop programming. The ALP-run time library (also known as separate package as ActiveX Pack1) makes ALP even alone rich environment which provides hundreds of functions related to the file system, registry, system information, data handling, custo script hosting, mutithreading and so on. With external components (such as ADO) you can build powerful applications that can compete even with their C++ counterparts. You can use data bases, access files, streams and binary data and your work is implicitly almost fully compatible with Microsoft Interenet Information Server. If the aim is one application that works on the WEB and stand-alone desktops as well - you can achieve that.

The ALP applications may work in IE or in the ALPFrame browser/viewer which also adds certain extended features accessible through client side scripts in the pages. For example you can manage menu bar just like the traditional desktop applications, you can show shorcut/right click context menus as the user clicks on certain elements of the page and you can do this dynamically.

Typical shareware - with trial periods is not our practice - we believe that a free product with some limitation in functionality can be more useful than a time-limited demo.
